This report focuses on the project’s participatory processes, and includes a summary of lessons learned and a final assessment.

Toward a New Model of Development Cooperation: The National Development Strategy Process in Guyana, June 6, 1996. Chaired by President Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and attended by the president, finance minister, and opposition leader of Guyana as well as development ministers, aid agency representatives, and leaders from the private sector and civil society, the 1996 forum reviewed the results of the initiative's efforts in Guyana to facilitate the participatory preparation of a National Development Strategy. Participants at the meetings called the Guyana effort a potential new model of development cooperation emphasizing the principles of ownership, participation, and international partnership. The Center was encouraged at the meeting to expand its country-based initiatives to Africa.

First Development Cooperation Forum: The Conference for Global Development Cooperation [PDF]
Chaired by President Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and U.N. Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali in a hopeful atmosphere for development following the end of the Cold War, the conference (held Dec. 4-5, 1992)examined specific and practical ways to improve development cooperation on an international scale. Following the conference, the Center convened an action-planning meeting of experts, donor officials, and country representatives that led to the establishment of the Global Development Initiative.
